Presidential Peaks

For many it could appear perverse

To roam the Presidential Traverse

In spite of one’s physique,

The trek makes the limbs weak.

But for views one could do a lot worse.

Northbound

Everett’s a mountain in South Mass.

and northbound’s not so easy to pass.

In the rain rocks are slick

And the fall very quick

So climbing it’s a pain in the ass.

Celibacy Blues

A young seminarian called Jim

Walked to Clarendon Gorge for a swim

It’s a shame he’s a prude

Because everyone was nude

And they’re naked to partake in some sin.

Saved by an Angel

There’s a certain Pole named Bob Mavic

Whose walk took a turn toward the tragic.

His stomach was a churnin’

And his mouth was a burnin’

But was saved by a box of Trail Magic.

Junction Malfunction

The luck of two friends began to wane

When they reached the junction that’s called Maine.

The white blaze was so clear,

But alas it’s just here

That the marks for two trails are the same.

Through the Trees

A man hiked the Long Trail on a dare

he couldn’t walk the length of it bare.

Bereft of protection,

he got an infection.

Now he lies in the ground without care.

Towering Pines

On a hike up to Greylock tower,

two men were beset by a shower.

So intense was the rain,

that each step caused them pain.

But at least Bascom Lodge had chowder.

Harmony

The view from atop Harmon Hill

has afforded many hikers a thrill.

Bennington lies between

sweet nestling hills of green,

and the sight makes one long for a quill.

Lake View

There’s a certain hill in Fahnestock Park

that no hiker should climb on a lark.

Alongside Canopus,

It’s like a Colossus

from which some have failed to disembark.
